The craft known as the Lost Squadron was buried by the constantly changing ice sheets of Greenland. In 1992, one of the P-38s was recovered from the ice, even though it was covered, and was put back into operational order. This was dubbed the "Glacier Girl," and it encouraged people to continue looking for the Lost Squadron. In 2018, another one was discovered.
