Entered Service in 1972 Retired 1992–1997 (G upgraded in 2015) Cost: $270 million The E-3 Sentry is an airborne early warning and control aircraft, often referred to as AWACS. Developed by Boeing, it is based on the 707 aircraft. The Sentry has been used by NATO, the USAF, the RAF, the FAF, and the RSAF. Its distinctive rotating radar dome makes it easily recognizable.
